Yesterday, former quarterback and political candidate Andrew Walter paid a visit to Western Window Systems to talk about his run for Arizona’s Ninth Congressional District and, of course, sports.

An Arizona native, Walter was a quarterback for Arizona State University and was drafted by the NFL’s Oakland Raiders in 2005. Following his career in sports, he returned to Arizona and started Andrew Walter Holdings, a commercial lending firm in Scottsdale. The Republican congressional candidate is competing in the August 26 primary to challenge Democrat U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema in the fall.

“Accountability makes for a good football team and a good business. You put everything on the line for the person next to you,” Walter said speaking from the manufacturing floor. “I tip my hat to how well this company is doing in an economy that’s sideways right now.”

Scott Gates, vice president and general manager of Western Window Systems, had an overall message for the team.

“We don’t want to tell you how to vote, but we do want to encourage you to exercise your right to do so,” he said. “And if anyone wants to ask Andrew what is was like to play quarterback for the greatest university in the world, that’s all right, too. Go Sun Devils! ”
