Daniel Varela

After the grueling move to the new building was completed late last year, several monumental tasks lay ahead for some employees. One of those seemingly insurmountable jobs was settling the disarray caused by transporting over 1,500 bundles from the old shop to the new facility.

Leave it to forklift operator/inventory man Daniel Varela to put his head down and get things in order.

“There was not a lot of time to get these bundles organized,” says materials manager Danny Bach. “But this guy spent months moving bundles to the correct saw.”

Bach says the receiving department was the guinea pig for the department’s new scanning/bar code system, and he calls Daniel a key player in providing feedback for the bar code and location functions in the receiving area.

“Daniel has been kicking ass making sure everything is up to date,” Bach says. “This guy is here every day on time with a smile on his face, and he has a drive to make sure the job gets completed.”

He also credits Daniel with coming up with a new idea for bundle labels, making sure the correct information is written with maximum visibility in mind. It’s all part of Daniel’s mastery of Western Window Systems’ inventory control. No easy task when there are more than 700 different parts to keep track of.

“If anyone needs help locating an item, Daniel jumps right in and makes sure they are taken care of,” Bach says.

And fortunately for the company, Daniel, who started with the company in August 2013, seems right at home at Miss 2200.

“Everyone is excited to be in this bad-ass new building, but there not might not be too many more thankful than him,” Bach says. “He no longer has to spend his long summer days outside pulling bundles and sweating his ass off. He shows this by making sure the rack area stays clean and organized!”

Congratulations to Daniel Varela, Western Window Systems’ day shop employee of the month for September.
